As a passionate mental health awareness advocate, she is respected for her courage to shun the stereotypes and stigmas.

With keen insight, she understands the effects of physical, emotional and mental trauma. She is sought after to speak at events such as Detroit Startup Week, and self-care workshops. She delivers sage advice while challenging others to process uncomfortable life situations.

As the founder and executive director of Brown Girls Read Book Club, her love for reading shapes future leaders. Her organization promotes literacy and life skills, with interactive activities for its members.

Her dedication shines through her accolades, which include an International Women’s Day of Detroit Award; Certificate of Appreciation from the City of Detroit; and Spirit of Detroit Award. She has also honed her business sense with completion of Retail Boot Camp at Tech Town Detroit and Build Basics at Build Institute.

Her memoir, “Emotions Of The Mind,” is a candid guide to shifting the narrative on mental health awareness. In May 2019, Fupping.com noted it as number one out of “17 Books on How to Process Feelings and Properly Express Them.”

Focused on expanding her vision, Tamela will launch her “Breaking The Cycle” webinar in July, 2019. Next year, she will make history with Detroit’s first book bar, T&T Sip -n- Read. Guests will get to enjoy their favorite books, wine, and coffee all in one place.
